Medicinal Mushroom Coprinus: hypoglycemic effects, liver detoxification, and combats hemorrhoids

The powers of the Medicinal Mushroom Coprinus

Coprinus (Coprinus Comatus), widely known as "Ink Mushroom" and one of the most common Medicinal Mushrooms, possesses various beneficial properties including the normalization and reduction of high blood sugar, the treatment of hemorrhoids, the improvement of the digestion and liver purification.

Scientific evidence supporting the medicinal properties of Coprinus began to emerge in 1934. Researchers studying its properties documented its positive effects on the intestine, hemorrhoids, and the immune system. In particular, they highlighted its significant hypoglycemic action.

Scientists discovered that the Coprinus Mushroom (Coprinus comatus) contains an excellent hypoglycemic agent, colloidal vanadium, which helps to reduce high blood sugar levels and glycated hemoglobin, a key indicator of blood sugar trends. Coprinus is considered useful for preventing and improving hyperglycemia and diabetes, because it reduces glycemic values and blood sugar levels when they are high (Bailey et al., 1984; Han et al., 2003 and 2006).

In addition to its hypoglycemic properties, this Medicinal Mushroom nourishes lactic ferments, hence restoring the intestinal bacterial flora, essential for proper intestinal function and immune response. Therefore, Coprinus is useful for individuals with compromised immune systems, as well as those experiencing colitis, swelling, and bacterial flora disorders.

Clinical studies have also demonstrated the effectiveness of Coprinus in the treatment of hemorrhoids and associated constipation. This Mushroom Medicinal broad-spectrum remedy has gained popularity for its beneficial effects.

Furthermore, Coprinus exerts an excellent detoxifying effect on the liver. It has the ability to penetrate liver cells even when heavily intoxicated by factors such as drugs, alcohol, and food, and thoroughly purify them: the deep healing action of Coprinus on the liver can even lower transaminase levels when they are elevated.

This is possible thanks to its adaptogenic function and the active ingredients of which it is composed, which act intelligently on the part of the body they encounter.

Properties and active ingredients of Coprinus Comatus

Coprinus is rich in active ingredients that are particularly beneficial for the health of the body:

  • Beta-glucans: potent immunostimulants, including D,1-6 D beta-glucans, rare in nature (Efremenkova et al., 2001);
  • Terpenes: powerful immunostimulants that enhance our defenses and combat aggressive agents that attack the body (Asatiani et al., 2011; Badalyan and Sisakyan, 2005);
  • Trehalose: a disaccharide prebiotic composed of two molecules, capable of restoring the intestinal bacterial flora, useful for improving the bacterial flora of the intestine, which is often disrupted in the presence of various pathologies;
  • Colloidal vanadium: a rare mineral with hypoglycemic properties similar to insulin, helping to reduce glycated hemoglobin and elevated blood sugar levels, both significant parameters in diabetes (Bailey et al., 1984; Han et al., 2003 and 2006);
  • Vitamin C: though rarely found in Medicinal Mushrooms, Coprinus contains this essential vitamin;
  • Manganese: contributes to the control of sugar and carbohydrate metabolism.
