Dear Doctor,
my name is Giada, I am 50 years old and, despite a strong initial scepticism, nowadays I am a strong supporter of mycotherapy. In fact, I was able to experience its beneficial effects first hand. This is why I decided to write this letter: I would like to tell everyone about my experience, so as to help as many people as possible, even if only with encouragement. I am a hairdresser and every day, for over thirty years, I have come into contact with potentially irritating substances. Five years ago I started having problems with the skin of my hands: it was always dry, red and itched intensely. I tried to apply moisturizers of all kinds, but the situation did not improve. So I went to the doctor, who diagnosed allergic contact eczema. He prescribed me cortisone and antihistamine ointments, which however did not give great results. A friend of mine who is passionate about natural medicines then suggested that I try using medicinal mushrooms, which in her case had produced excellent results. At the beginning I categorically refused: I have never believed in the effectiveness of alternative remedies and I was convinced that they could never work against a skin disease. After a few months, however, I changed my mind: by now the eczema had become widespread and annoying and I really couldn't take it anymore. I therefore thought "let's try this too, since I have nothing to lose". At her suggestion I started using Reishi and, to my amazement, after a few weeks I started to feel better. Over time, the symptoms improved further. It didn't seem true to me that I could have "normal" hands again. Today, four years after the start of the treatment, I continue to do occasional cycles to maintain the beneficial effects and I am much better. It is in light of this experience of mine that I would like to recommend all those who suffer from dermatitis to try mycotherapy!

Dear Giada, first of all I would like to express my pleasure that you are now feeling better. Secondly, I would like to thank you for this enthusiastic story, which offers me the opportunity to talk about an illness which is unfortunately very widespread, but which can actually benefit greatly from treatment with medicinal mushrooms. Your friend therefore made an excellent suggestion. However, to obtain even greater benefits I advise you not to just take Reishi, but to add two other remedies which, as I will explain shortly, are very useful in such cases.

What is eczema?

Eczema or dermatitis is a fairly widespread inflammatory skin disease. There are various types, but the two most common forms are contact eczema and atopic eczema. The first, as the name implies, is linked to contact with irritating or allergenic substances. Irritative dermatitis does not involve the immune system, but is characterized by direct tissue damage. Allergic dermatitis, on the other hand, is mediated by the immune system which, upon exposure to the substance towards which the person is sensitive, starts producing antibodies, which then lead to the appearance of symptoms. There are potentially thousands of substances that can trigger contact dermatitis: ranging from nickel to other metals, from chemicals to glues. Atopic dermatitis is also an allergic reaction, however it occurs regardless of contact with the substances towards which you are allergic. In all cases, the symptoms of eczema are similar: the skin becomes dry, red and thickened. In addition, intense itching may be felt, which worsens the quality of life, and peeling and lesions may appear.

How does Mycotherapy work?

To improve the situation it is certainly useful not to use very aggressive detergents and you should not rub the skin after washing it, but just dab it gently with a soft towel. Of course, it is also important to avoid contact with the substances that are irritating or to which you are allergic. If you want to permanently solve the problem, however, you need to start specific treatment. Mycotherapy is excellent because it acts both on the underlying causes of the problem and on the symptoms. The ideal solution is to choose a protocol consisting of three mushrooms: Shiitake, Reishi and Agaricus. Shiitake has a specific effect on the triggering mechanisms: in fact, it protects the intestine, where most of the immune cells are located, in an excellent way. As a result, the immune system rebalances itself and no longer produces the antibodies that trigger eczema. Reishi and Agaricus, on the other hand, have anti-inflammatory, antihistamine and immunostimulating properties: on the one hand, therefore, they fight the inflammation characteristic of the disease, improving all the symptoms, and on the other, they allow the immune system to function better. Furthermore, both assist Shiitake in its antibody elimination action, blocking an allergic reaction right from the start. The advice is to take 2 grams of each mushroom per day, for at least three months.
